The RC Kololo story

logo

The Rotary club of Kololo was sponsored by the Rotary club of Kampala, and then District Governor Sam Owori’s special representative for the formation of the club was Fortunate Kwesiga of the RC of Kampala.

The first meeting of the Rotary Club of Kololo was held on 13th January, 1988 in the Senior Police Officers Mess (currently called Kampala Club) with 31 Members. The Club was admitted to Rotary International on 6th June 1988 with 28 members. By the time the club got the charter on 7th August 1988, it had 35 members plus 7 other members whose admissions to Rotary were still being processed. Its first President was Ernest Kakwano. Most  of  the  charter members of the club were Government  Senior  Civil Servants, Managing  Directors; or General  Managers  of both  Public Parastal companies and Private Enterprises and that is why the Club was jokingly referred to as the Managers Club. The club has continued to grow its to 80 members in 2017, making it one the biggest clubs in Uganda.

The club started vigorously, meeting at the Fairway Hotel on Tuesdays at 18:00hrs. In 2003 the club changed the venue of its meetings to Hotel Africana.

Service Projects

From its inception, the Rotary Club of Kololo has made its mark in the community by embarking on several projects even before it was chartered. Some of the projects to its credit include Naguru Children’s Reception Centre, Mpererwe Clinic/St Steven’s Hospital,  Polio  immunisation  at  Naguru  Health  Centre  which  has now been upgraded to a District Hospital, desks and books to schools, operating theatre tables, etc.

The club’s flagship project is Naguru children’s reception center where the Club built a sick bay and continues to make a number of interventions annually. Every December members of RC Kololo hold a fellowship at the reception center with the children on the Tuesday before Christmas. At the December 2016 fellowship with children, the club donated a deep freezer together with other Christmas goodies for the children:

Many other successful projects have been implemented by the club.
